Now it’s launched something that sounds so simple, yet so ideal it’s a wonder it hasn’t been thought of before.

Building on the Legit Lashes mascara launch – you can read our Legit Lashes review here – the iconic beauty brand has launched a topcoat that can be applied to both Huda Beauty’s own mascara, as well as any other make or model and it promises to instantly make it waterproof.
And, as is the case with waterproof mascara generally, this doesn’t just mean it will stop your mascara running should your eyes get wet, it also prevents you from smudging the mascara by accident.
In fact, one of our criticisms of the regular Legit Lashes mascara was that it tended to smudge and transfer onto our cheeks and clothes. This Legit Lashes Waterproof Topcoat seemingly solves this problem.
“LEGIT LASHES Waterproof Mascara Topcoat is a clear gel layer that makes your fave mascara water-, sweat-, and smudge-proof!,” explains the brand. “One swipe of this topcoat with its precision brush will lock mascara into place, protecting them from tears, fears, downpours, late-night dancing & so much more!

Surprisingly, for Huda Kattan’s brand, the Legit Lashes Topcoat doesn’t cost a fortune, either. It’s not cheap at £16 but it’s a hell of a lot cheaper than having to buy waterproof versions of your fave mascaras or having to make do if your go-to best mascara brand doesn’t come in a waterproof formula.
Huda Beauty does recommend leaving the gel to set but once set, it is said to last all day. If this means you don’t have to top up your mascara at various intervals then you’re also, effectively, saving money.
We’ve bought the Legit Lashes Topcoat and once it arrives we’ll put it to the test. In particular, we’ll be testing it with the Legit Lashes mascara, as well as the Pillow Talk mascara from Charlotte Tilbury. The latter is one of the worst mascaras we’ve used when it comes to smudging and dropping so it will be a good test of how well the Waterproof Topcoat works.
