The best body firming creams, lotions and oils that *actually* work

As we age, we lose elasticity in our skin that not even a change in diet and fitness can completely reverse.

It’s why the mature skincare market is a billion-dollar business, why there are myriad treatments aimed at getting our youthful, firm skin back and why firming lotions are so popular.

Having babies and the middle-aged spread can also lead to loose skin, cellulite and wobbly bits all of which are, of course, beautiful but can cause many of us to lose confidence.

If this is you and you’re looking for firming lotions that actually work, we’ve spoken to skincare experts to reveal which ingredients to look for, and which products do as they promise.

Nivea’s Firming and Goodbye-Cellulite Gel Cream

Price: £5.39 | Buy now from Superdrug

Not only is Nivea’s Firming and Goodbye-Cellulite Gel Cream an absolute bargain, it actually works.  One of the main ingredients is a coenzyme called Q10, which has been scientifically proven to be a strong antioxidant which helps to neutralise harmful free radicals that are behind many of the annoying signs of ageing. Of course, it’s unlikely to get rid of cellulite completely but Nivea promises a noticeable reduction within three weeks of use and we can vouch for this.

Jergens Skin Firming Daily Moisturiser

Price: £12.99 | Buy now from Amazon

Jergens Skin Firming Daily Moisturiser has gathered a cult following because it more than outperforms its low price tag. Using a mix of collagen and elastin, it tightens and increases the elasticity and resilience of skin and improves its firmness. It’s also great for revitalising dry skin because it improves skin tone, texture and luminosity. As described in The Guardian, “This, my fellow cellulite miracle searcher, is the Holy Grail.”

Aveeno Positively Ageless Anti-Ageing Firming Body Lotion

Price: £12.99 | Buy now from Amazon

Aveeno

Aveeno is a more expensive skincare brand than Nivea and Jergens, and we’re not convinced it beats either of its cheaper rivals but, thanks to being packed with vitamins and amino acids, the shiitake complex in this lotion helps support healthy cell production of collagen and elastin for healthier, firmer skin found the inside out. It takes several weeks of continuous use before you start to see results, but because it’s not superficially changing the skin, and is boosting cell production, it has a more lasting effect once it does kick in.

Balance Me Super Toning Body Oil

Price: £20 | Buy now from Lookfantastic

The only oil in our body firming roundup, Balance Me’s Super Toning Body Oil smells incredible and is absorbed by the skin almost immediately, leaving it soft and smooth. This is, in part, due to the fact its infused with Macadamia and Sweet Almond Oils, while Wheat Germs provide anti-ageing properties to help firm and plump the skin and antioxidants stimulate circulation to minimise the appearance of cellulite.

Clarins New Body Fit has been designed to target the three types of so-called Adipocytes cells found in our bodies and are which responsible for storing energy as fat. Its formula helps firm and tone the skin and reduces the appearance of cellulite with only a handful of uses.
