Many of us have made, or are trying to find, various ways to live more sustainably.
Whether it’s recycling more, ditching plastic or searching for ethically sourced products, one area we hadn’t really considered – among the shampoo bars, vegan creams and eco-friendly makeup brushes – was natural, aluminium-free deodorant.
The average lifespan of a plastic deodorant pack is around 400 years and there are more than 250 million bought in the UK each year. Many of the products on the market additionally contain chemicals including aluminium salts, parabens and phthalates.

This is why our interest was piqued when we discovered Wild.
Posted through consumers’ doors – in 100% recyclable packaging, obvs – Wild’s range is biodegradable, refillable and 100% compostable, without any unnecessary chemicals. Even the fragrances are created using natural products such as orange and coconut.
The refills are available as a one-off purchase or part of a subscription service, where you’ll initially receive a case and scent of your choice, with a new set of three refillable fragrances sent automatically every three months.
A Wild refill will fully compost within six months and biodegrade within 12, leaving no trace whatsoever.
The subscription starter pack, consisting of one aluminium alloy case (that lasts a lifetime) and one refill, costs £12, whilst the non-subscription trial pack – in which customers get to try three of the available scents – is £25. The subscription service is delivered in a pack of three at £5 per refill, where customers pay £15 every three months.
The fragrances – Orange Zest, Coconut Dreams, Rose Blush, Mint Fresh and Bergamot Rituals – are made using essential oils and are free of aluminium salts, parabens and phthalates utilising a range of natural ingredients.

As the company explains: “Many mainstream antiperspirants contain a synthetic group of aluminium salts. Their function is to reduce sweating by being absorbed into the body and temporarily blocking sweat glands.
“By preventing perspiration, there is less opportunity for the growth of odour causing bacteria which form when sweat lingers on the skin.”
It’s not the first brand to enter this market, Native, Salt of the Earth and Dr Organic are just a few alternatives, but none of these brands do it with as much style as Wild, nor do they make getting hold of natural deodorant so simple.
What’s even more impressive is that for every deodorant Wild sells, it contributes towards a global tree planting initiative through charity OnAMission.
It is also working towards being a carbon positive company, offsetting all of its omissions.
“We don’t believe in preaching, but rather aim to inspire, as the power of small habit changes can go a long way,” Freddy Ward, co-founder said.
“The collection of scents will definitely have people’s heads turning and hopefully encourage people to come over to the Wild side.”
