Morphe’s new Lightform Foundation costs £20 and promises to hydrate and boost the skin’s barrier while giving a natural finish

Morphe – the maker of some of the best eyeshadow palettes we own – has launched a new skincare-infused foundation called Lightform.

The foundation, or to give it its full name the Morphe Lightform Extended Hydration Foundation, costs £20 and offers buildable medium coverage.

Elsewhere,  it contains a host of hydrating and moisturising skincare ingredients that promise to “maintain skin’s moisture balance and barrier function over time”.

This includes hyaluronic acid, known for its hydrating properties and for making skin look more plump.

The new Morphe Lightform is the latest foundation developed to combine the benefits of skincare and makeup. This has been a trend that’s been growing in popularity since the pandemic with people looking for more from their makeup products.

The Morphe Lightform Foundation offers buildable medium coverage and creates a hydrating, natural finish.

It contains what the brand calls HydroRelief Complex which is a blend of “natural moisturising sugars, humectants, and hyaluronic acid.”

This complex apparently improves the skin and helps maintain the skin barrier when used regularly. It’s then been clinically proven to hydrate the skin for up to 16 hours and cover for hours too. This would make it a good foundation for mature skin, especially mature skin over 50.

In terms of the ingredients, the Lightform foundation contains:

  • Sodium Hyaluronate: A form of hyaluronic acid that helps to plump and moisturise the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Allantoin: Thanks to its soothing effects, allantoin promotes skin regeneration and helps get rid of irritation, making it great for sensitive skin.
  • Tocopherol (Vitamin E): Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that helps to protect the skin from environmental stressors and free radicals, keeping it looking youthful and healthy.
  • Citric Acid: This is a mild AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) that helps to exfoliate the skin and promote cell turnover.
  • Fructose, Maltose, Trehalose, Glucose: These are the natural moisturising sugars mentioned as part of the HydroRelief Complex that help to hydrate and condition the skin.

This isn’t the most inclusive range of shades but it’s better than a lot of foundations, especially foundations of this price and Morphe always makes a conscious effort to cater to a diverse customer base.

The launch of the Lightform Foundation by Morphe, like Makeup Revolution’s Skin Silk Serum foundation and MAC’s Radiance Serum foundation before it, is a response to the growing demand for makeup that offers more than just coverage.

By adding skincare to makeup, the brand aims to provide a product that not only enhances the skin’s appearance but also contributes to its health and wellbeing over time.

We’ll be putting the Lightform foundation to the test and we’ll update this page when we have our own results.
