Beauty advent calendars have become hugely popular in recent years but they’re entirely focused on the Christian event of Christmas. Even if the calendars themselves don’t have any religious affiliation, advent calendars typically run throughout December in anticipation of Christmas Day. Huda Beauty is now expanding the idea to let people countdown the days to Eid, with its first-ever 1001 Nights Ramadan Gifting Calendar.

It’s on sale now for £105 directly from the Huda Beauty website, saving 37% compared to buying the individual products separately.

The calendar gets its name from the book 1,001 Nights, also known as The Thousand and One Nights or Arabian Nights. This is a famous collection of Middle Eastern and South Asian folk tales that were originally published together during the Islamic Golden Age.

As explained in the Instagram caption, the Ramadan gift contains 10 items from the Huda Beauty, Wishful Skin, and Kayali range. Huda Beauty is the makeup range from influencer Huda Kattan, and Wishful Skin is a skincare line recently spun out of Huda Beauty. Kayali is a fragrance brand owned by Huda’s sister, Mona. You can read more about these lines on our Huda Beauty UK page.

These 10 boxes are to be opened after breaking fast during the 10 days at the end of Ramadan.

When is Ramadan and Eid in 2021?

This year Ramadan begins on 12 April and the first Eid – Eid-al-Fitr – is due to take place on 12 May.

This Eid festival lasts a day and coincides with the end of the month-long Ramadan, during which Muslims are forbidden from eating or drinking between dawn and sunset. Fasting is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, which form the basis of how Muslims live their lives.

Eid-al-Fitr is celebrated during the first three days of Shawwal, which is the tenth month of the Islamic calendar (a calendar based on the lunar cycle) but both Eid-al-Fitr, and Ramadan dates can shift slightly. This is because they’re based on the sighting of the crescent moon in mid-April. Once the moon is officially spotted, Ramadan ends, Eid begins before Shawwal starts.

This is why Eid-al-Fitr is also known as the Festival of Breaking the Fast.

There is also a second Eid, celebrated in July, known as Eid-al-Adha or the Festival of Sacrifice. It will be marked between 19 July and 23 July in 2021 and is a time to remember when the prophet Ibrahim was willing to sacrifice his son when Allah ordered him to.
