Dior Forever Skin Glow foundation review: The best dewy foundation for mature skin

14th April 2024 | Author: Victoria Woollaston-Webber
Verdict

In terms of living up to the brand’s claims, the Dior Forever Skin Glow Foundation definitely offers a radiant finish. It lasts for hours as promised – we don’t wear foundation for 24 hours so can’t vouch for the “all-day” claims, but it definitely lasted well into the evening – and it left our skin looking youthful and plump.

It’s lighter on the skin than it first appears, it blends like a dream and a little goes a long way which helps justify the high price tag a little.

I had been worried that the radiant finish would leave my oily areas looking worse or would leave me looking slightly sweaty, but the opposite was true. The Skin Glow managed to leave my face looking dewy but natural, giving an almost satin-like finish.

This subtle glow lasted throughout the day and it never made my skin feel feel heavy or cakey. In fact, I appreciated how hydrated my skin felt throughout the day, even in the cold winter weather.

Regarding coverage, this foundation offers a buildable medium. It evened out my skin tone and helped minimise my redness without leaving my complexion looking flat.

While it’s not entirely buildable to full coverage without it starting to feel a bit heavy, it strikes a nice balance that is suitable for everyday wear.

What’s more, it actively improved my skin during the six-week review period. It didn’t fix all of my skin woes, but it definitely made it look less red and balanced my oiliness.

If you have really oily skin, the luminosity might put you off. As will the price. Depending on your shade, you may also struggle to find a match despite the high number of shades available. This is because the number of shades with Cool undertones is significantly underrepresented compared to those for Neutral and Warm tones.

Despite all this though, the Skin Glow’s lightweight texture, luminous finish, and long-lasting performance make it a worthy investment, if you can afford it.

In my Dior Forever Skin Glow foundation review, I see if the best dewy foundation for mature skin lives up to the hype

Christian Dior’s Forever Skin Glow Foundation has been a staple in the brand’s makeup line for years, renwowned for its lightweight formula and how it creates radiant, dewy skin that lasts all day.

It was one of the first foundations to feature such a huge range of skincare ingredients – the formula is 86% skincare – and this means that it doesn’t just provide long wear coverage, but it promises to improve the condition of your skin over time, with regular use.

Yet all of these benefits come at a price. At £48, the Forever Skin Glow foundation is one of the most expensive foundations we’ve tried.

In a bid to see if the Skin Glow Dior foundation lives up to its promises, the hype, and its cost, I recently embarked on a six-week Dior Forever Skin Glow foundation review.

Read on to discover what I thought of the coverage, finish, staying power, and skincare benefits to see if it’s really worth the £48 price tag.

I also explain more about choosing the best shade in my Dior Forever Skin Glow foundation shade guide.

Dior Forever Skin Glow Formula

You can see the full list of ingredients inside the Dior Forever Skin Glow foundation in the ingredients section below but I wanted to include some of the highlights here.

On the plus side, the Skin Glow Dior foundation contains glycerin and a number of plant extracts that help hydrate the skin.

On the downside, the foundation also contains alcohol, which can be drying on the skin, as well as fragrance. This could cause problems with sensitive skin. I didn’t experience any problems with redness or irritation during my Skin Glow foundation review, nor did it cause any breakouts, but it’s worth noting.

Dior Forever Skin Glow foundation Before and After

The image below shows my Dior Forever Skin Glow Foundation before and after results. I have light skin with neutral undertones so opted for the shade 1.5N which was a good match, if a little on the light/yellow side.

Dior Forever Skin Glow foundation: Coverage and Finish

When I first pumped the Skin Glow foundation onto the back of my hand, I was surprised at how thick it felt, and how it appeared to be full coverage despite the brand claiming it’s medium.

Even when I applied it to my face, a small pump of the dewy foundation looked like it was going to be too much. However, as soon as I started moving it around my face, its texture felt much more lightweight.

It blends really easily, even with my fingers, and doesn’t streak or gather on dry patches.

@victoria_woolly_web Good, natural-looking coverage. Not too heavy. Impressive luminosity. Nice work @dior #mamabella #dior #diorforeverglow #diorforeverskinglow #foundation #foundations #shadematch #foundationshadematch #foundationshadefinder ♬ Water (feat. Clara La San) – Bicep

As someone who has combination, mature skin, I tend to have oily patches in my T-Zone. I was nervous that the luminous finish Dior promises with the Forever Skin Glow Foundation would leave my face either looking shiny, or looking like I was a bit sweaty. Neither was true.

This foundation managed to enhance my skin’s natural radiance, making it look healthy and dewy but not over the top. In fact, it creates almost a satin-like finish which makes my mature skin look great without enhancing my oily areas.

What’s more, this finish lasted throughout the day and the foundation felt comfortable and never felt cakey.

Coverage-wise, I was pleasantly surprised by this foundation. While I typically prefer medium coverage, I found that I could easily build up the coverage to my desired level without it feeling heavy. It blurred out imperfections and evened out my skin tone, providing a flawless canvas for the rest of my makeup.

In terms of longevity, the Forever Glow Foundation holds up. I wore it throughout a busy day filled with work meetings, errands, and even a quick workout session, and I was impressed by how well it stayed put. There was minimal fading or creasing, and I didn’t feel the need to constantly touch up my makeup, which is a big win in my book.

During my six-week Dior Skin Glow foundation review, I did notice that my oiliness and redness were reduced. Even when I wasn’t wearing the foundation.

It didn’t quite get rid of my fine lines as I had hoped it would – especially given its price – but any improvements to my complexion are a welcomed bonus. What’s more, as my oiliness became more balanced, the dewy foundation’s coverage and finish lasted even longer.

Dior Forever Skin Glow foundation alternatives: If you can’t afford the Luminous Silk foundation but want a cheaper option with similar coverage, finish, and benefits I recommend the L’Oreal True Match Foundation (£10) or the NYX Born to Glow Naturally Radiant Foundation (£10). Neither have the staying power of the Dior version but this can be remedied with setting powder or spray, or at worst touching up the foundation throughout the day.

How I tested the Dior Forever Skin Glow foundation

For my Dior Forever Skin Glow foundation review, I used it as my go-to foundation each time I wore makeup, for a review period of six weeks. I wear foundation three times a week, on average, while working but also while out with friends.

I usually test foundations for a month, however, given the fact that Dior talks about the Forever Skin Glow having skincare benefits, I wanted to give it time to make a difference. This is because skin typically renews itself every six weeks meaning it can take a while to see the benefits of any skincare products.  You can read more in our How we test skincare to see if it lives up to its claims.

I applied the foundation using my fingers, a damp beauty sponge as well as a foundation brush throughout the review period. I also applied it using a stippling brush followed by a soft powder brush to see which application method gave the best results.

The rest of my makeup routine remained the same. This allowed me to accurately see how the Dior foundation looked and lasted compared to other foundations I wear regularly, and see how it plays with other products in my routine.

How to apply the Dior Forever Skin Glow foundation

During my Dior Forever Skin Glow foundation review, I tried different application methods. The best results I got were when I used by fingers.

To get the best out of your Dior Forever Skin Glow foundation coverage, make sure your face is well moisturised then do the following:

  1. Shake the foundation well.
  2. Apply a pump of Dior Forever Skin Glow onto the back of your hand to warm it up.
  3. Dab a small amount of the foundation onto any areas that require correction or coverage. This is likely to be your cheeks and the middle of your face.
  4. Using your fingers or a brush/blender, buff the foundation out from the centre of your face to the edges.
  5. Once pressed into the skin, even out the finish using a damp beauty blender.
  6. A final, optional step, is to gently buff the surface of the skin with a soft powder/kabuki brush.
