Original COSRX Snail Mucin Cream review continues below

Despite my initial apprehension – and slight disgust – about the texture of the COSRX Advanced Snail 92 Mucin Power Cream it has become a staple in my routine.

It delivers great, almost instant hydration. It leaves your skin looking healthy and glowy, and it soothes and repairs the skin barrier.

It’s not cheap, but thanks to its slimy consistency a little goes a very long way so it lasts longer than you may think, meaning you don’t have to replace it all too often.

And you will definitely want to replace it. This cream has been a gamechanger for the appearance, texture and health of my skin and, if you can get over the texture and price, you’re unlikely to be disappointed.

Pros
  • Deeply hydrating
  • Repairs and smoothes the skin
  • Leaves complexion looking glowy
Cons
  • Slimy texture
  • Not cheap

As Korean beauty goes, COSRX is one of the best brands to stem from the south of the country.

Since 2013, researchers have been experimenting with and studying ingredients and prescriptions directly in the COSRX laboratory where they develop unique products for specific skincare needs and types.

One of its bestsellers, and one of the products it’s become best known for, is the COSRX Advanced Snail 92 All-in-One Cream.

The cream is designed to hydrate the skin while improving the texture and overall health of your skin.

It gets its name from the fact it contains 92% snail mucin extract alongside a blend of soothing and hydrating ingredients including hyaluronic acid, allantoin and panthenol.

Such is its popularity, it was one of the most requested products in our skincare group test on TikTok, where we’re looking for the best moisturisers, serums, and more through a series of tests and reviews.

The cream scored well but to detemine if it’s really worth the hype, and the cost, we’ve spent the past six weeks putting it to the test. We’ve also sent pots of the cream to members of our mamabella Reader Review Panel to see how the cream performs on different skin types and needs.

Keep reading our COSRX Snail Mucin Cream review to discover how it fared and if it’s worth the investment.

How I tested the COSRX Snail Cream

For my COSRX Snail Mucin Cream review, I used it as my main moisturiser for six weeks, every morning and night. I explain why it’s so important to test skincare for six weeks minimum in our guide to how we test skincare to see if it lives up to its claims.

In the morning, after cleansing and toning, I massaged a small amount onto our face and neck. At night, I double-cleansed before applying the Snail Mucin Cream across my face and neck. I have combination skin that is also sensitive and acne-prone.

The rest of my skincare routine deliberately remained the same to make it easier for me to spot any problems or benefits that came from the Snail Mucin COSRX cream.

Throughout this period, I tracked how my skin looked and felt. I looked for changes in texture, irritation, and whether I experienced more breakouts or problems than we normally would.

How to use COSRX Snail Mucin Cream

cosrx advanced snail mucin cream reviewmamabella | mamabella

It’s worth using the COSRX Snail Mucin Cream twice a day, in the morning and evening, to see the best results in the shortest time

COSRX recommends using a “proper” amount of the Snail Mucin Cream but I’m not entirely sure what that means so I opted for a single-finger’s worth. It’s also worth using the Snail Mucin Cream twice a day, in the morning and evening, to see the best results in the shortest time.

  1. Cleanse your face like usual.
  2. If you use toner and serum, apply these products after cleansing but before the All-in-One Cream.
  3. While the skin is still damp, take the required amount of Snail Mucin Cream using clean fingertips or a spatula.
  4. Gently massage the cream onto your face and neck using upward, circular motions.
  5. Continue to massage until the cream is absorbed into the skin.
  6. Tap the cream into your skin, especially areas of concern such as on your forehead wrinkles or areas of irritation or redness.

If you want to boost the impact you can also use the Snail Mucin COSRX cream as a face mask by applying a thicker layer once a week and letting it soak in. If it doesn’t absorb completely, massage any cream that remains in.

COSRX Snail Cream: Performance

COSRX Snail Cream reviewmamabella | mamabella

The COSRX Snail Cream has a thick, mucus-like consistency that’s viscous and slimy

The first time I used this cream I have to admit that I turned my nose up at it. It has a thick, mucus-like consistency that’s viscous and slimy. This massively put me off and I almost abandoned the review.

However, I’m glad I didn’t. Once you start massaging the cream it your face, it absorbs well. It feels slightly tacky for a few seconds but it doesn’t leave a sticky residue like I had expected. In fact, it leaves the skin feeling instantly hydrated and plump and this was a pleasant surprise.

I first started seeing a difference in my skin’s texture within the first week. My dry patches, especially around my cheeks and chin, felt less rough and more hydrated. The fine lines around my eyes also appeared less obvious.

After using the COSRX Snail Mucin Essence for four weeks, these positive and noticeable changes became even more pronounced. My skin had a healthy, dewy glow, my pores were less obvious and face looked brighter. The skin on my face and neck also felt firmer and bounced back better.

Yet it wasn’t just the hydration I was impressed with, my redness and irritation was greatly reduced. COSRX claims that the Snail Mucin cream can help repair your skin barrier and my results suggest this is true.

I did experience some occasional breakouts, mainly around my menstrual cycle, but these calmed down quicker than usual while reviewing the COSRX Snail Mucin.

The cream is also described as “fragrance-free” and while it doesn’t have any discernible fragrances in it, it does smell a little odd. An ever so faint scent of mud or similar. It’s not unpleasant, but it does linger a little so is worth noting.

If the below embed doesn’t work, you can watch the video here.

@victoria_woolly_web The Snail Mucin Essence did really well in my hunt for the best moisturiser and serum – it increased hydration by 32.2% – and the All-In-One Cream version from @cosrx_official’s same range didn’t let me down. In my test on damp skin, the Snail Mucin gel-like cream increased the hydration of my skin by 11.1 percentage points. This is the highest percentage point increase of any product *however* it equates to a percentage increase of 30.3%, meaning it falls a little behind the Essence. And puts it in fifth place for hydration alone, as well as fifth place overall, when things like price and whether it’s vegan or cruelty-free are taken into consideration. I’m going to start testing all products for five minutes, as well as an hour to see how the hydration lasts over time. As with all my videos, this isn’t “scientifically” accurate and nor is it meant to be. My skin type will be different to all of yours and products will react differently as a result. It’s meant to be used as a guide/to be semi interesting. I’m not trying to get anyone to buy anything (or not buy anything), it just is what it is ☺️ #mamabella #moisturiserforoilyskin #bestmoisturizer #bestmoisturiser #moisturizer #moisturiserviral #cosrx #snailmucin #snailmucincream #cosrxcream #bestmoisturizerforthisseason #moisturizercream #hydration #StopScammerTime #thischanges #cuffit ♬ Cool Kids (our sped up version) – Echosmith

COSRX Snail Mucin Cream: Formula

The COSRX 92 All-in-One Cream’s formula is ideal if you’re looking to hydrate the skin or repair the skin barrier. From my experience, I’d say it was best suited for dry to combination skin types, although a number of online reviews praise this cream for being great for oily skin.

It’s key ingredients include:

  • Snail Secretion Filtrate: This is a powerhouse ingredient that helps moisturise and regenerate and heal the skin.
  • Betaine: Betaine comes from sugar beets and helps to hydrate, while maintains cellular water balance to make you skin look plump.
  • Sodium Hyaluronate: A form of hyaluronic acid that deeply hydrates by binding significant amounts of water to the skin.
  • Arginine: An amino acid that acts as a building block for skin collagen and promotes wound healing and skin rejuvenation.
